View Full Version : Winter Soaring Options?

November 9th 13, 11:11 PM
I have been waiting for a new glider for quite some time. It has finally arrived and the midwest soaring season is coming to a close. What are my options for winter soaring. I have checked out Seminole Lakes but I am having trouble finding a hangar to store my glider. Any ideas would be helpful.

Come fly some ridge at Blairstown, NJ! Yards Creek Soaring is the operator.

I don't care how good Condor is, it's still an inflateable woman compared to
a new glider.

There's plenty of hangar space at Moriarty - one beam in the "world-famous"
carousel hangar that you could probably get at a reasonable monthly rate.
No hangar rash there and wave season is just starting to wake up.

How is the Moriarty wave in most years say Dec 15-20? I may be in the area then.

Wurtsboro Airport is open all winter - convenient ridge access, occasional wave soaring, hangar space available. Stop by for a visit or call us at 845-888-2791

It's generally good but, of course, I can't promise anything.

I show 4 wave flights last December with release altitudes ranging from 8.1
to 9.2K (1,900 - 2,100 ft AGL). Three of the flights were above 17,000' MSL
and one to a bit above 15,000' MSL. All were achieved by thermalling up
into the wave. You could look on OLC or Skylines. Dates were 12/1, 12/7,
12/8, and 12/27. Other days I was towing.

Will you be bringing your glider or renting from Sundance Aviation? They
have 2 Grob 103s and an LS-4 for rent.
